Current Situation

Henderson County has declared a State of Emergency due to Hurricane Helene. The State of Emergency is also proclaimed at the request of the Mayors in the Town of Fletcher, Town of Laurel Park, Village of Flat Rock and Town of Mills River.  The City of Hendersonville has also declared a State of Emergency as revoking all special event permits until the end of the state of emergency. 

Henderson County has announced a curfew is in effect from 8 pm to 8 am until conditions improve.

Henderson County has launched a Wellness Check Status Map for lost contacts. This map shows individuals whose location and safety are unknown in red. Blue dots show contacts that have been made.

Please check the map to see if you are listed or if you know the whereabouts of anyone on this map. Please call 828-771-6670 to notify us of anyone’s status.

Resource Hubs 

Henderson County's six Resource Hub locations will be open Wednesday, October 2, at 9 am for water distribution and other supplies as they become available. The county is gathering supplies from federal, state and local resources.

The Resource Hub locations are:

Each family unit will be provided supplies for one day's meal and water as it is available. Individuals are asked to enter the drive-through Resource Hubs and remain in their cars unless instructed otherwise by volunteers, to ensure an efficient process. 

In order for the Resource Hubs to function smoothly, efficiently and safely. We ask for the public's patience while waiting for their supplies. 

At this time, the Resource Hub operation are planned for today only. Details on future resource distribution, as well as donation acceptance instructions from the general public, will be communicated by the county as information is available.  

Donation Information 

A donation collection site has been established at 118 McAbee Court, Flat Rock, NC 28731. Perishable food items, bottled water, toiletries and baby powder formula are needed. We are not accepting perishable food or new/used clothing items. Visit www.visithendersonvillenc.org/helene-relief for a full list of items. 

Directions: From Upward Road exit off I-26, go toward the QT, turn left onto McMurray Rd and then left into the industrial complex. The warehouse is the last warehouse to the right. Truck entrance is behind the building facing the interstate.

For specific donation-related questions, please email Helene-Donations@hcem.org and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Henderson County staff are working around the clock to support our community, but the email address may not be monitored 24/7, and we have experienced additional setbacks with renewed limitations in cell service and internet access.

Financial donations can be made to the Hurricane Helene Relief Fund online.

Volunteer Opportunities

Please complete this online form to express your interest in volunteering your time. It may take days or weeks for us to provide opportunities, but we are examining ways that we can enable people to lend a hand.

Hot Meals

Salvation Army is serving breakfast Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. and dinner at 4 p.m. until the last plate is served. Location: The Salvation Army of Hendersonville, 239 Third Avenue East, Hendersonville, NC 28792.

 

Storm Debris Dropoff

The Henderson County Transfer Station will open Monday, September 30th, at 7 a.m. and will accept storm debris with the normal fees. Cash, check, or established accounts are only accepted. 

  • Yard debris and bulk debagged leaves = $48/ton
  • Construction and demolition debris = $63 ton

Citizens should also tune to local and regional radio and television stations for up to the minute emergency information from the Henderson County Emergency Operations Center.

Traffic and Road Conditions

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management is maintaining a list of local road closures. It is linked here.  Other roadways in Henderson County not on this list may be flooded or impassable, this is only a list of road closures that have been reported to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.

The public is encouraged to sign up for alerts from Henderson County Emergency Management (and partners) at: ConnectHC Alerts - Smart911 and download the Henderson County Sheriff's Office App.

Flood Maps

Residents can review the county floodplain maps here. Residents can enter their address to determine their proximity to the 500 year floodplain.

Note: when reviewing the floodplain maps use this guide:

  • Crosshatched area is the floodway
  • Light Blue is the 100 year floodplain
  • Grey is the 500 year floodplain

Shelter Information

A joint shelter has also been established with Buncombe County for residents in the French Broad River Valley.
