How to Apply for Hurricane Helene Disaster Assistance
There are 4 ways to apply for disaster aid:
- Online: www.DisasterAssistance.gov
- FEMA App: Available on Google Play or the Apple App Store
- Call: 800-621-3362
- In-person: Visit the Disaster Recovery Center at 2111 Asheville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC 28791
What You’ll Need When You Apply
- A current phone number where you can be contacted.
- Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
- Your Social Security number.
- A general list of damage and losses.
- Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
- If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
If you have homeowners, renters or flood insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If your policy does not cover all your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance.
Hazard Mitigation Grants
The State Hazard Mitigation Team will be at the Henderson County DRC December 3-5 to assist homeowners with completing their HMGP grant applications. Visit www.NCDPS.gov/HM for an 8-minute video about the funding opportunity.
SBA Disaster Loans
Disaster assistance is available from the U.S. Small Business Association for homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses of all sizes affected by Hurricane Helene.
