  • Unfortunately, pets can lose their way from home. Some pets are found and kept safe by kind strangers. Other pets are taken to local shelters. Animal Services maintains a list of all reported lost and found pets and makes every reasonable effort to locate owners.

    If you have lost your pet, it is best to visit the shelter. It is sometimes difficult to identify your pet over the phone. Stray animals are kept at the shelter for a minimum of 3 days before offered for adoption or if necessary, euthanized.

  • Animal Enforcement is a division of the Henderson County Sheriff's Department. Animal Enforcement Officers will pick up stray dogs and cats on public property or on private property when reported. If you need a stray animal picked up or any other animal control issue please contact the Henderson County Sheriff's Dept. at 697-4912. If the animal has tags or a microchip, every reasonable effort is made to contact the the owner to come and pick up the animal at the shelter. It is County policy that the animal is to be held at the shelter for a minimum of 3 days. If the owner is not located the pet is offered for adoption or if necessary, euthanized.

    In a partnership with Blue Ridge Humane Society, Henderson County will offer a Spay Neuter Incentive Program (hereinafter referred to as SNIP) for the purpose of spaying or neutering the companion animals belonging to residents who meet the following criteria:

    1. must be a resident of Henderson County, North Carolina
    2. must pay $10 appointment fee to schedule surgery
    3. must have a complete application form on file with the SNIP coordinator
    Persons seeking the services of SNIP will be required to provide documentation to prove that they are a resident of Henderson County.

    The SNIP program will cover a rabies vaccine, the cost of spay or neuter surgery, including anesthesia, medication and veterinary services. The cost of additional vaccines and other services are the responsibility of the owner.

  • Henderson County Sheriff's Department is in charge of handling animal control issues in the county. To report an animal control issue in the county please call 697-4912.

 

PLEASE NOTE: The Henderson County Animal Service Center does not handle animal bites, animal pick ups or animal related complaints including animals at large or cruelty/neglect.

General Information

The Henderson County Animal Services Center is located at 828 Stoney Mountain Road and is adjacent to the county landfill / transfer station.

Essential Departmental Functions: Animal Services provides shelter for adoptable and stray animals and reunites lost pets with their owners. The department keeps records of rabies cases and encourages responsible pet ownership through microchipping and anti-cruelty measures.
