What is North Carolina Work First?
Work First is an employment program designed to assist families that are in temporary financial crisis . The ultimate goal is to help the family gain self-sufficiency and the skills necessary to be independent of services. The child must be:
- Be 17 or younger; Children may receive Work First Benefits through the month that they turn 18. Children who are age 18, in high school and expected to graduate by the of their 19 birthday, can receive through the month they graduate from High School
- Be deprived of principle wage earner, such as (death, absence , incapacity, unemployment)
- Live in Henderson County with specified relative
- Not receiving SSI
Work First Services
200% - TANF-EA
200% provide services to assist families in crisis with maintaining employment. Qualifying families must meet basic income guidelines as well as other requirements, including but not limited to: being a US Citizen, a Henderson County resident, qualifying immigrant and having a least one child under the age of 18 years of age living in the home. Each family is assessed based on their individual situation. This service is important in helping families remain off assistance.
