Public Health Nurse II – Clinic

Description

 The Henderson County Department of Public Health (HCDPH) is accepting applications for one full-time clinic Public Health Nurse II (PHN II) position. The employee in this position provides professional nursing services for clients presenting to the health department for clinic services.  Clients frequently present with multiple health problems and socio-economic issues requiring complex nursing assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.  The PHN II is responsible for direct patient care which includes intake and exit interviews, client counseling and teaching, triage, carrying out provider orders and assisting with procedures.  Clinic services include pediatric primary care, pregnancy and postpartum care, family planning, women’s health screenings, and STI diagnosis and treatment. This position is supervised by the Clinical Services Manager.

Schedule

Typical work week is Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with some extended hours (that may include weekends and holidays) to meet agency, and/or public health response needs.

 

Qualifications

 Considerable knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions; adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information.  

Preferred Qualifications: Spanish language skills preferred, not required. 

 

Required Minimum Education and Experience

 Current N.C. Registered Nurse license and graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.

  • If a fully qualified PHN II is not available, we will consider hiring a PHN I with a work-against for one year. PHN I requires graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and a current N.C. Registered Nurse license.

Salary Grade 79A             Anticipated Hiring Range: $59, 280 -$72, 000  annually                                 Benefit Eligible
