Henderson County childcare homes recognized for excellence in child health

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (October 30, 2020) – Two family childcare homes in Henderson County have been recognized by the statewide program REACH (Recognizing ECEs Advancing Children’s Healthy Habits) for their excellence in child health.

Alexandra’s Family Childcare Home in Hendersonville was recognized for their achievements in child nutrition, Henderson County’s Go NAPSACC work group announced. Laurie’s Child Care, a partner of WCCA Early Head Start in East Flat Rock, was also recognized for their work in farm to early childhood education (ECE).

Both are among the first childcare programs in North Carolina recognized by REACH, a pilot program to celebrate ECE facilities that go above and beyond to support healthy habits in children.

Sarah McDaniel, Go NAPSACC Coordinator and Technical Advisor in Henderson County, has worked with ECE facilities over the past year to ensure that Henderson County children get a healthy start.

“Early childhood education centers and homes in Henderson County work extremely hard to ensure the health and safety of our youngest residents,” McDaniel said. “I am thrilled that two of our childcare homes are being recognized state-wide for their efforts.”

The Go NAPSACC Program of Henderson County provides support to early childhood education centers and child care homes to improve best practices related to physical activity and nutrition. This program is provided in partnership by Smart Start Partnership for Children and the Henderson County Department of Public Health with support from United Way of Henderson County and the Henderson County Partnership for Health’s Committee for Activity and Nutrition.
