 (Human Services Planner-II)

Description

The Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting applications for one full-time Healthy Living Coordinator (HLC) to join our Community Health Improvement team. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic health education professional who is passionate about helping improve and protect the health of our community. The Healthy Living Coordinator (HLC) will plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based interventions and strategies to improve health outcomes, with a focus on active living, food access, chronic disease prevention, and related social drivers of health. The HLC is a health strategist who will work with local Henderson County partners around health policy, innovation and engagement.

The successful applicant will have experience, including but not limited to:

  • participating in coalitions, boards and community partnerships
  • public speaking to both small and large groups, including local government
  •  developing educational materials or media campaigns
  • creating reports and explaining complex data
  •  knowledge of Henderson County community partners and resources
  • grant writing, budgeting and administration
  •  familiarity with the Healthy Communities Grant
  • collaboratively planning, implementing, and evaluating group programs/community interventions to prevent and mitigate identified priorities including obesity, poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco use, childhood injuries, elderly injuries and/or substance misuse

Schedule

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, with one hour for lunch. Work schedule may include non- traditional hours, evening, holiday, or weekend work hours. Additional hours may be required for public health emergencies, preparedness activities, special events or programs, out-of-county training/travel, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Health Director.

Qualifications

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, experienced facilitator, ability to work effectively with people on all educational & professional levels, ability to deal tactfully with others and exercise good judgment in assessing situations and making decisions, skill in establishing a rapport with departmental staff, community leaders, and the public. General knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration with more specific knowledge of the planning process; and of program areas to which assigned. General knowledge in data analysis, utilization, and reporting.

Required Minimum Training

A master's degree in public or human services administration or a human services programmatic field, preferably with course work in human services planning, and one year of experience in human service program planning or administration; or graduation from a four-year college or university, and three years of administrative or consultative experience in a human service program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Credentials:  

  • Degree in Public Health, Health Education, or Health Promotion preferred.
  • CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) or MCHES certification preferred.

 Salary Grade: 75A     Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,680.50-$60,000 annually. Benefit Eligible.
