DSS Deputy Director

Essential Duties:

  • Ensures that staff receives training and are kept current with state standards, county policy and recommended/ required professional practice standards.
  • Resolves employee problems and grievances through informal or formal discussions and procedures. 
  • This position is authorized to give or approve the giving of first written warnings to all staff under direct or indirect supervision. 
  • Oversees the recruiting and selection process. Conducts annual performance evaluations of each SW Program Manager.
  • Provides consultation and regularly scheduled group and individual conferences with Program Managers. 
  • Arranges or provides training for social work program.
  • Participation on committees, both agency and community.
  • Provides the Director with budget requests from the social work units.  
  • Actively participates on agency management team and on applicable agency ad hoc committees. 
  • Keeps the Director, Program Managers and Supervisors informed of policy, difficult cases, personnel, community committee participation, plans and ideas, and related issues and needs including recommendations as to the study and/or resolutions of these ideas.
  • Serves as principal assistant to the DSS Director.
  • Serves as the administrative contact to the DSS attorneys

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and four years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were supervisory;
  • Or a bachelor’s degree in social work and five years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were supervisory;
  • Or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and six years of social work or counseling experience, two of which were supervisory;
  • Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

         Preferred Experience: Previous North Carolina Department of Social Services experience

Starting salary:    $66,670.50 - $151,612.50

 

Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.
