Regional Transit Feasibility Study

Regional Transit Study Timeline

Public Engagement Opportunity March 22 - April 22

This study kicked off in 2020 and aims to develop recommendations for cross-jurisdictional public transit in the FBRMPO planning area–Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, and Madison Counties–by identifying potential routes and opportunities for coordination (such as establishing a Regional Transit Authority), developing funding strategies, and creating an implementation plan.

Currently, the separation between urban and rural public transportation in the French Broad River MPO planning area makes it difficult or impossible for residents to take transit between jurisdictions. To best serve the region, a more regional approach to public transit must be explored. Coordinated transportation can increase accessibility to jobs and medical services and potentially relieve congestion on roadways.
