Priority Goals & Strategies for Action
In the fall of 2004 a series of three focus group meetings were held on affordable housing issues for Henderson County. The purpose of these meetings was to establish priorities and strategies to address affordable housing needs. These priorities were ranked in order of importance and can be seen listed in order of priority below.
- Help those with the greatest needs
- Coordinate housing development with transportation, jobs, and services
- Raise community awareness of the need for affordable housing
- Increase the affordable housing stock
- Make efficient use of available land and infrastructure
- Preserve existing housing stock
- Stabilize deteriorated neighborhoods
- Preserve long-term affordability
- Promote homeownership
- Promote mixed use/mixed income development
- Promote mixed use/mixed income development
- Emphasize high quality, energy efficient, neighborhood compatible designs
