Solar Thermal Panels

In Henderson County, we recognize that it is increasingly important to use our resources sustainably. As a result, an energy plan and a 20-year solid waste vision plan have been developed and approved by our Board of Commissioners.

Henderson County has a Solar Thermal Hot water system to help decrease our environmental impact by harnessing the sun's energy to assist in heating water. You can see the impact of the system by going to the monitoring page.

Energy Saving Tips

As the weather gets colder, energy bills go up. Here are some low cost tips to reduce your energy consumption and save on your heating bill this winter.

-Switch to compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. Now widely available at most retailers, they have become much more affordable, last longer and use less energy than incandescent bulbs.

- Plug home electronics, such as TVs, computers and DVD players, into power strips and turn the power strips off when not in use. Even when they aren't turned on, large electronics still use a small amount of energy but turning off a power strip will turn them completely off.

-Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

-Air dry dishes rather than using your dishwater's drying cycle.

-Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.

-Set your thermostat back when you're not at home.

-Make sure your house is sealed up; check your home for any leaks in the ventilating system, cracks around windows and doors and open fireplace dampers.

-Make sure your heating and cooling system is properly maintained-the better it's maintained, the more efficiently it will heat and cool your home. Check your owner's manuals for recommended maintenance.
