Permit Specialist
Duties and Responsibilities: Performs responsible clerical and technical duties with the Building Services Department; receives and processes building permit applications; routes applications and plans; answer phone calls; accepts payments and processes receipts; issues permit; prepares correspondences, reports, and various documents; greets and assist citizens; maintains accurate files and records; performs extensive data entry; schedule inspection request; performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Reports to the Permit Coordinator.
Qualifications: General knowledge of office practices and procedures; some knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures; ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copier/scanner and other equipment required for the position; experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and related software; general knowledge of construction terminology and practices to assist with maintaining accurate records, prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, the public, other departments and agencies; ability to multi-task and work efficiently and confidently under pressure in a fast-paced environment; ability to pay attention to details; ability to communicate effectively both verbal and in writing; ability to attend work regularly. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in business practices and computer science. One to two years office experience preferred.
Obtain NC Notary Public certification within first year of employment. Successfully attend NC Law and Administrative Code Course within one-two years of employment.
Pre-employment drug test and background checks required of finalist applicants.
