Vehicle Mechanic

Duties and Responsibilities: This position Performs various maintenance and servicing of a variety of vehicles; performs various repairs to engines and various parts of vehicles; installs emergency vehicle accessories; removes and replaces vehicle tires; performs minor automotive body repairs. This position also Performs intermediate skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automotive and other motorized equipment in the County Garage facility; performs related work as required.  Work is performed under regular supervision.  Reports to the Fleet Supervisor

Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the repair of automotive equipment; thorough knowledge of theory, care, and operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair of automotive equipment; thorough knowledge of the uses of a variety of repair tools and special testing equipment; general knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions of mechanical work; ability to diagnose causes of defective operation and to perform major and minor overhauls on a variety of equipment; ability to locate, adjust, repair, or replace automotive parts and components; ability to lift tires and other mechanical equipment;  ability to follow written direction in specialized vehicle manuals; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle; ability to attend work regularly.
