MINUTES

 

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA                                          BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

COUNTY OF HENDERSON                                                                      SEPTEMBER 17,  2001

 

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners met for a special called meeting at 3:00 p.m. in the Commissioners= Conference Room of the Henderson County Office Building at 100 North King Street, Hendersonville, North Carolina.

 

Those present were:  Chairman Bill Moyer, Vice-Chair Marilyn Gordon, Commissioner Grady Hawkins, Commissioner Don Ward, Commissioner Charlie Messer, and County Manager David E. Nicholson.

 

Also present were: School Superintendent Dr. Tom Burnham, Finance Officer for Schools Kerry Shannon, Former School Superintendent Dr. Frank Yeager, and all the members of the Board of Education: Ervin Bazzle, Melissa Maurer, Ken Butcher, Betsy Copolillo, Kristin Huntley, Jane Orwoll, and Debbie Reemes.

 

Absent was: Elizabeth W. Corn, Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners.  David Nicholson took notes for these minutes in his capacity as Acting Clerk to the Board.

 

The purpose of this meeting was a school facility tour with the Board of Education. 

 

The two Boards met at the Henderson County Office Building and boarded vehicles to begin the tour of school facilities.

 

Tour of School Facilities

The Board Members took a van to Clear Creek Elementary School where Bill Barnwell and David Jones of the school system explained the school construction.  This school is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2002.

 

The next stop was the new Fletcher Elementary School.  Fletcher Mayor Bill Moore joined the group to tour the school.  They moved into this school over the Labor Day weekend.

 

The final stop was Etowah Elementary School. This project is also scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2002.

 

The tour ended at the County Office Building at approx. 5:45 p.m.

Note: No one actually called the meeting to order or adjourned the meeting.  There was a quorum present from each Board. No action was taken.
