OF NORTH CAROLINA BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY
OF HENDERSON NOVEMBER 15, 1999
The Henderson County
Board of Commissioners met for a special called meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Mills
River Fire & Rescue Department in Henderson County. This was a joint
meeting with the Fire & Rescue Association and the Board of Commissioners.
Those present were: Chairman Grady Hawkins, Commissioner Renee
Kumor, Commissioner Don Ward, Commissioner Marilyn Gordon, County Manager David
E. Nicholson, and Fire Marshal Rocky Hyder.
Commissioner Bill Moyer arrived late.
CALL TO ORDER/WELCOME
Chairman Hawkins called
the meeting to order and welcomed those in attendance.
WELCOME - MILLS RIVER
CHIEF
Chief Gary Livingston
welcomed everyone in attendance to their Department.
INVOCATION
Dr. Howard B. Norton, a
member of the Fire Commission, gave the invocation.
Chairman Hawkins
introduced the other Commissioners and thanked the members of the Association
for the volunteer work they do for the County.
He stated that the purpose of the Advisory Committee was to enhance
their operations and that the members of the new Committee should have a desire
to help the departments.
The Chairman then
reviewed changes that the Board had made from the latest draft submitted by the
Association. The Chairman asked that
the Association review the new by-laws and let the Board know the Association=s comments.
7:25 p.m. Commissioner Moyer arrived.
Members of the
Association questioned the Board on issues such as the make-up of the Advisory
Board, the role of the Fire Commission and that a member of the new Advisory
Board could not have any financial conflict of interest. Association members also discussed the
importance of the Property Addressing Project.
The Chairman informed them that Assessor Robert Baird was to report to
the Board in December with a plan for implementation of this project.
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
