Today's Air Quality Conditions
Some continued localized smoke near the Sunset Rd. fire in Brunswick County could be causing reduced air quality. Meanwhile, air quality conditions across the rest of the state today are predominantly in the Code Green range.

General Forecast Discussion
Through midweek, an unsettled pattern will continue as a stalled upper level low begins to lift northeastward, dragging a surface low and attendant cold front offshore with it. Initially, tomorrow the area will be between systems. With skies likely remaining mostly sunny, ozone levels may elevate into the upper Code Green range with fine particulate levels also holding in the same general AQI range, again outside of some localized elevation near the Sunset Rd. fire in Brunswick County.
Outlook
Wednesday into Thursday, behind the first upper low, a second, more strung out upper low will begin sending waves of PVA into the region Wednesday afternoon on into Thursday. This will result in additional unsettled weather with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms returning on those days. With clouds increasing and the chance of showers and storms, will hold the air quality forecast in the Code Green range through the period outside of the possibility for some isolated smoke with the Sunset Rd. wildfire in southern NC.
Daily PM2.5 values > 9.0 μg/m³, or in the Code Yellow range or higher, may contribute to an exceedance of the EPA's annual PM2.5 standard.
Extended Air Quality Outlook
The forecast Air Quality Index value for each pollutant represents the highest value expected within each county, so some areas and monitors may see lower values. We use the best information and techniques available to ensure the quality and accuracy of the forecasts we provide to the public. Note that ranges do not include the nine-county Triad region, which is covered by the Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection.
